DS Iris multimedia system and key BSRF module faults in the DS DS 4 II
The DS Iris multimedia system and the key electronics are the most repeated items in DS 4 owner reports on fiches-auto.fr: screens that freeze or go black, radio and navigation that fail, and one case of a car that will not start because of the BSRF module. There is no recall or independent study.[1]
Why this rating?
Medium severity: It can leave you stranded or get worse if ignored, without destroying the engine.
Frequency occasional: Nine of the 27 reports on the page (a third) cite electronics or multimedia, and 17 of the 27 are for the 1.6 E-Tense plug-in hybrid of 225 hp. It is a very small sample with no published methodology, and we have not found press or official data that quantify it, so we leave it at 'occasional'.[1]
Symptoms
- The DS Iris system freezes, restarts, loses navigation or radio, or shows a black screen; the camera may show a black or frozen image and the instrument cluster may flicker.[1]Screen failure: other faults that cause it · Monitor
- In one report the car had been stuck at the workshop since 26 December 2024 because it would not start, due to a possible BSRF module fault; in another, a black dashboard, the car does not start and the handbrake stays locked.[1]Hard to start: other faults that cause it · Garage soon
Why it happens
fiches-auto.fr does not identify a technical cause: it records faults of the DS Iris system, of the shark-fin antenna (which affects the radio) and of the BSRF module (which is linked to key recognition) according to owner reports.[1]
If it is not repaired: From loss of radio and navigation to, in the worst cases, a car that will not start and spends weeks at the workshop.[1]

How much it costs to repair
Includes: Inspection or replacement of the multimedia module, the antenna or the BSRF module at the official dealer.[1]
We have not found a reference price in euros in Spain.
Prices in Spain, including VAT. A workshop hour costs on average €38–66 at independent garages and €77–134 at dealerships in Spain, depending on the region and the brand. How we calculate costs
How to check for it before buying a used car
- Test the central screen and the instrument cluster for a good while: navigation, radio, camera and starting with the key, cold and warm, and ask whether the car has been to the workshop for electronics.
- Ask for the official service history and check with the chassis number whether there are any outstanding recalls.
Recalls, campaigns and claims
As of 5 October 2026, we have no record of recalls, campaigns or extended manufacturer warranties for this fault. Check with an official dealer using the chassis (VIN) number: they will tell you whether the car has any outstanding campaign.

Other faults of the DS DS 4 II
- High severityFrequency: OccasionalBodywork and interiorInterior door handles disabled by a VSM module software faultYes: a Stellantis recall (June 2026) covers DS 4s built between 14 December 2022 and 9 February 2026 because a software fault in the monitoring module (VSM) can prevent one or more doors from being opened from inside with the engine running. It is fixed with a software update.
- High severityFrequency: OccasionalElectrical systemDS 4 E-Tense charging cable with a faulty plug temperature sensorPlug-in hybrid DS 4s built between 17 February and 4 May 2023 were included in a campaign (code JUQ) because the charging cable's safety function, the plug temperature sensor, might fail and let the cable overheat with a risk of fire. The page points to replacing the cable as the fix.
- High severityFrequency: OccasionalSuspensionSubframe bolts not tightened properly on a 2022 batchAccording to fiches-auto.fr, a batch of DS 4s built between July and November 2022 was included in a campaign because the subframe might have been badly bolted, with a risk of loss of stability. The page sums it up as re-tightening the bolts and gives no reference or further details.
- Medium severityFrequency: RareSuspensionNoisy front shock absorbers or inconsistent damping on the active suspensionThree reports on the DS 4 page at fiches-auto.fr talk about the active suspension: front shock absorbers replaced under warranty for noise at 38,000 km, 'dead' front suspension at 15,000 km and inconsistent damping. These are one-off cases on the E-Tense version, with no recall or independent study.
The faults of its engines are on the DS DS 4 II page.
The same problem in other cars
- High severityFrequency: OccasionalNissan NV200Start button that does not return to its position on the 2013-2014 e-NV200Yes: in 2015 a recall was notified to Safety Gate because the start button on e-NV200s produced in late 2013 and early 2014 could stay pressed without returning to its position; if the car was driven like that, the emergency stop function could switch off the engine.
- Medium severityFrequency: CommonBMW Serie 3 E46Central locking and immobiliser failure due to worn relaysThe central locking can become intermittent or stop responding to the remote, and the immobiliser can fail sporadically when starting; gebrauchtwagenberater.de attributes both faults to wear in the relays of the control modules, and fiches-auto.fr records numerous testimonies of unreliable locking.
- Medium severityFrequency: CommonMercedes-Benz Clase C W203False ESP/airbag warning lights, a humidity-sensitive SAM module and EWS immobiliser faultsIt is one of the areas with the most complaints on the W203: ESP, SRS or airbag warning lights that come on for no reason, temperamental central locking, SAM modules that age badly with damp and, in units built before the 2004 update, faults with the EWS immobiliser and the steering column switch.
- Medium severityFrequency: CommonSeat León IIIRecurring electronic faults: screen, remote key and warning lightsYes: the magazine MotorMundial documents electronic faults that keep recurring on the Leon III, both in and out of warranty, such as the touchscreen going black or restarting, Bluetooth dropouts, the right-hand mirror not tilting down when reversing and warning lights that come on for no apparent reason.
- Critical severityFrequency: RareToyota C-HR IThe immobiliser can switch from "Ready ON" to "Ready OFF" while the car is movingOn vehicles built between 2020 and 2023, a weak standard immobiliser design can let the car enter "Ready ON" mode without properly verifying the key and then switch to "Ready OFF" while driving, which can cause the hybrid system to shut down on the move. Toyota fixes it by inspecting the vehicle at an official service centre.
- Medium severityFrequency: OccasionalAudi Q7 4LElectronics faults: MMI, keyless entry and comfort systemsThe Q7 4L is linked to faults with the MMI (screen, sound, menus), keyless entry antennas in the door handles and other comfort modules, often tied to damp or a weak battery.
