Airbags

Airbags inflate in milliseconds using a gas generator (inflator) when the control unit detects a crash. The documented faults range from a warning light caused by a connector under the seat to defective inflators that can rupture, such as the Takata ones, which led to the largest recall campaign in automotive history.

What to do

With the airbag warning light on, the airbags may not deploy in an accident: have it checked soon. If your car has an outstanding airbag campaign, book an appointment as soon as you receive it and, if the manufacturer says so, do not use the car until it is repaired.
