Lower suspension arms with missing, partial or insufficiently penetrating welds in the Ford Transit
Two 2020 recalls (20S47 and 20S53) affect the Transit's lower suspension arms: in units built from October 2019 to July 2020, welds may be missing or partial, and in units built from June to September 2020 the weld penetration on the left-hand arm does not meet the specification. There is a risk of breakage and an accident.[1][2]
Why this rating?
Critical severity: It can destroy the engine or gearbox, or affects safety.
Frequency occasional: These are preventive recalls covering production batches of only a few months, and the notices do not publish how many units or how many real failures there were; the frequency that fits a preventive recall is "occasional".[1][2]
Symptoms
Why it happens
In recall 20S47, the fitted lower arms may have missing or partial welds.[1]
In recall 20S53, the weld penetration on the left lower arm does not meet specifications, so cracks may form in the arm.[2]
If it is not repaired: The arms could break or crack, increasing the risk of an accident, according to the two Safety Gate notices.[1][2]
Affected years and cars
Recall 20S47 covers Transits built from 4 October 2019 to 29 July 2020 and 20S53 covers those built from 2 June to 15 September 2020. The notice warns that the recall may not affect every vehicle of the type: the usual approach is to check with the chassis number at a Ford dealer.[1][2]

How much it costs to repair
Includes: Inspection and, where necessary, replacement of the lower suspension arm at an authorised Ford dealer or workshop.[1][2]
None of the sources consulted publishes an amount or the financial terms of the recall; confirm with an official Ford dealer, using the chassis number, whether the vehicle is included and what work is carried out.
Prices in Spain, including VAT. A workshop hour costs on average €38–66 at independent garages and €77–134 at dealerships in Spain, depending on the region and the brand. How we calculate costs

- Critical severityFrequency: OccasionalSuspensionInsufficient rear axle lubrication causing rear wheel bearing failureRecall 24S57 covers Transits built between 26 September 2023 and 29 April 2024: the rear axle may not be lubricated enough, which causes the wheel bearings to malfunction and can lock the rear wheels, with a loss of control.
- Critical severityFrequency: OccasionalGearbox and clutchRear propshaft bearing support without the intended bushesRecall 20S70 covers Transits built from 24 September 2019 to 25 August 2020: the rear propshaft bearing support may have been fitted without the intended bushes, so the shaft could come loose and touch the ground.
- Critical severityFrequency: OccasionalElectrical systemWiring damaged by insufficient clearance from the transmission housing: power steering failure and fire riskRecall 25SC5 covers 9,121 Transits built between 10 May 2024 and 11 November 2025: the wiring harness sits too close to the transmission housing and can be damaged, with a risk of power steering failure and a fire caused by a short circuit.
- Critical severityFrequency: OccasionalAirbags and safetyDriver's seat belt height adjuster bolt with incorrect tightening torqueIn 2019 a warning was issued that the bolt on the driver's-side front seat belt height adjuster might be under-tightened on Transits built from 6 February to 29 August 2017, with a risk of the anchorage coming away from the adjuster in a crash.
- High severityFrequency: OccasionalSuspensionCracked rear anti-roll bar on the 2015 TransitIn 2015 a warning was issued that the rear anti-roll bar on some dual rear wheel and single rear wheel 440E Transits could crack and compromise the vehicle's handling. It affects units built from 14 March to 21 October 2015.

- Critical severityFrequency: OccasionalCitroën Jumpy IIICorrosion in the bolt and bushes of the front suspension armYes: a Stellantis and Toyota campaign (November 2025) inspects the front suspension arm mounting of the Jumpy and Spacetourer because corrosion can weaken the bolt and even break it, with partial loss of control of the car. The inspection and, if needed, replacement of the parts are free.
