Suzuki 1.5 K15B atmosférico (Jimny de cuarta generación) · Suzuki

The 1.5 K15B in the Suzuki Jimny is a 102 hp naturally aspirated four-cylinder with a timing chain, simple and with no documented faults of its own. The only thing recorded in Europe is a 2018-2020 recall for the fuel pump, precautionary and with a definitive remedy.[1][2][3]

We have not found any documented faults specific to the engine; the only thing recorded is the fuel pump recall on 2018-2020 units, which should be checked with the chassis number.[1][2][3]

Buy: No known serious faults, or they have already been corrected, in this version. With caution: Worth buying if something specific is verified: history, a replaced part or a completed campaign. Avoid: High risk of a serious fault that is hard to check for or prevent.

What the 1.5 K15B (Jimny) is

The K15B is the largest of Suzuki's K-series engines: 1,462 cc, four cylinders, 16 valves, double overhead camshafts with variable valve timing and a timing chain. According to Wikipedia it produces between 102 and 106 hp and between 130 and 138 Nm depending on the market. It has been available since 2018 in the Jimny Sierra and in other Suzuki models built in India (Ertiga, Ciaz), which are not sold in Europe.[4][5]

In Europe the fourth-generation Jimny (JB74) was sold from autumn 2018 with this single engine, 102 hp and 138 Nm, with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. Emissions rules forced the suspension of sales as a passenger car in 2020; the model returned in 2021 as a light commercial vehicle and, according to Spanish Wikipedia, was withdrawn from the market in 2025. The three-door Jimny is built in Japan.[6][7]

The press describes it as simple and inexpensive to maintain, with no documented weak points of its own, although none of the sources consulted provides failure statistics from a large sample. The main criticism is high real-world consumption (7 to 9 l/100 km according to one Spanish source), which that source attributes to aerodynamics and off-road tyres, not to a defect.[1][3]
