The best windscreen wiper blades of 2026 according to the tests

This ranking brings together independent tests of windscreen wiper blades. The most recent is Auto Express's (September 2025): seven flat blades fitted to a Fiat Panda, chilled to −20 °C before installation. It is joined by Testfakta's test with the DEKRA laboratory (October 2024, eight flat blades on a VW Golf VII, also published by the Norwegian club NAF), Autocar's (February 2024, seven blades on a 2001 BMW 3 Series) and those by Carbuyer and Hagerty UK (2021). Each outlet uses different cars, sizes and scoring systems, so the ratings cannot be averaged, and the prices are those of the British or Scandinavian market at the time. The Bosch AeroTwin appears in all five tests and wins every one.

According to 5 tests independent tests from Auto Express, Testfakta, Autocar, Carbuyer and Hagerty UK, the best windscreen wiper blades are the Bosch AeroTwin (10.0/10), the Wiperblades Aerowiper (8.2/10) and the Michelin Stealth Hybrid (7.2/10). The score summarises the position each one achieved in those tests; it is not our own test.

    Bosch AeroTwin

    • Auto Express · 2025: #1 of 7 · «5 stars»The best wiper of the test: it cleans best, is quiet, easy to fit, and performed the same straight out of the freezer as after warming to 30 °C.
    • Testfakta · 2024: #1 of 8 · «9,5/10»The best of the eight: easy to fit, good cleaning at low and high speeds and very good resistance to cold; in the Norwegian test it is the AeroTwin AP 650 U model and the second most expensive.
    • Autocar · 2024: #1 of 7 · «5 stars»It clicked into place in seconds, with resistant plastics, even pressure right to the tips and a clean sweep also at high speed; it is also one of the cheapest in the test, so it also takes the best buy award.
    • Carbuyer · 2021: #1 of 7 · «5/5»The easiest to fit and very quiet, with excellent water clearance and no streaks even in a downpour.
    • Hagerty UK · 2021: #1 of 6 · «Score 10»Quiet, held firmly on the arm's hook and sweeps well; about £8 more than the Aerowiper.

    Wiperblades Aerowiper

    • Carbuyer · 2021: #2 of 7 · «4/5»Goes on very quickly with a single adaptor, clears water well without leaving marks and is fairly quiet; the budget alternative to the Bosch.
    • Hagerty UK · 2021: #2 of 6 · «Score 9»Performed almost as well as the Bosch at a lower price, with a QR-code explanatory video on the packaging; the connector looks somewhat cheap and unfinished.

    Michelin Stealth Hybrid

    • Carbuyer · 2021: #2 of 7 · «4/5»Much quieter than the others and cleans without marks; it is the heaviest and the most complicated to install, with six adaptors in the box.
    • Hagerty UK · 2021: #3 of 6 · «Score 8»Old bridge design with a rubber cover and a bulky look, and a less firm connection than the Bosch's, but it swept well and did not move in heavy rain.

    Wipac Storm X

    • Carbuyer · 2021: #5 of 7 · «3/5»Very good value for money and includes a rear wiper, but it looks fragile and plasticky and may leave streaks.
    • Hagerty UK · 2021: #4 of 6 · «Score 6»The cheapest and includes a rear wiper, but the anchors are flimsy, it leaves slight marks and knocks at the end of each sweep.

  5. No. 5 · 2 tests

Halfords Advanced Flat Silicone Wiper Blade

    • Carbuyer · 2021: #4 of 7 · «3.5/5»Made of silicone rubber, which should leave a water-repellent coating on the glass, but in the test the difference was barely noticeable, and its price (about £50) is very high.
    • Hagerty UK · 2021: #5 of 6 · «Score 5»Quiet and with a sweep as good as the Bosch's, but very expensive (about £52), with no noticeable beading effect and the pack has no adaptor for the Discovery's hook.

    Vipa Blade Set

    • Autocar · 2024: #4 of 7 · «3 stars»Easy to fit with a clip, and they clean well and quietly, even in heavy rain at motorway speed, but the hinge plastics are fragile and break if forced.
    • Carbuyer · 2021: #6 of 7 · «2.5/5»Similar to the originals and cleans reasonably, but some poorly adjusted parts cause knocking, and the build looks cheap.
    • Hagerty UK · 2021: #5 of 6 · «Score 5»Similar to the originals and cleans acceptably, but the driver's blade struck the windscreen frame and the parts look brittle.

What to look for when buying

  • Check that the length of each side and the type of fixing match your car and that the necessary adaptors are included: in the test, one brand's website suggested a shorter blade than the Panda required, and another needed several adaptors to find the right one.
  • Do not assume that the most expensive is the best: the most expensive in the test was a shop chain's own brand (3.5 stars), while the winner cost about £25 for the pair and the second about £21.
  • Once fitted, check the sweep with the glass both wet and dry: the faults the test recorded were knocking when changing direction, vibration at the bottom of the blade and a streak in the middle of the windscreen.
  • Be wary of unbranded blades with no markings or instructions at a few pounds: the cheapest in the test (about £4) had sections that did not touch the glass and left large areas uncleaned.
  • Changing them is a simple job on most cars. Auto Express recommends doing it yourself shortly before the annual inspection or a service, rather than paying a workshop, because wear is gradual and is usually noticed late.
  • Check the size against your car's listing and not only against the shop's search tool: Autocar initially received a blade of the wrong size because Amazon's compatibility system was incorrect, and it advises not relying simply on the product saying it “fits”.
  • Metal-frame (“bridge”) blades such as the Valeo Silencio, the Halfords Essentials or the Michelin Stealth Hybrid still clean well, but Autocar and Carbuyer describe them as harder to fit than flat blades: they take longer, sometimes come without instructions or need up to six adaptors.
  • The Halfords silicone blades (about £50 in 2021) showed no advantage: Carbuyer barely noticed any difference from the supposed repellent effect, and Hagerty detected no water beading, although they cleaned well.
  • A cheap blade can perform very well: the Aerowiper (about £15–19 in 2021) came second in both British tests it entered, just behind the Bosch, and the Biltema Flatblade (a little over 100 Swedish kronor) came third in Testfakta ahead of Valeo, Continental and Hella.

Frequently asked questions

Which wiper blades won the most recent test?

In Auto Express's September 2025 test (seven flat blades on a Fiat Panda), the Bosch AeroTwin won with 5 stars, followed by the Lucas Airflex and Simply Wipers, both with 4.5 stars. That test used a single car; the other four tests listed on this page also put the Bosch at the top.

How were the blades in this ranking tested?

Auto Express fitted a pair of each model to a Fiat Panda (with 23 and 16-inch sizes), chilled them to −20 °C before installation, and tested them on wet and dry glass. It then scored ease of fitting, the appearance once fitted, noise, vibration and the marks they left on the glass.

Is it worth paying more for wiper blades?

In this test, price was not a clear guide: the winning Bosch cost about £25 for the pair, the second-placed Lucas about £21, and the most expensive, the Halfords own brand (about £28), scored 3.5 stars. The prices are those the magazine quoted in the UK and may differ in Spain.

When should wiper blades be replaced?

The test sets no timeframe. It explains that wiper blades deteriorate gradually, so the problem is usually noticed late, when they split or an inspector fails them at the annual test (the British MoT). With new blades the difference in visibility is clearly noticeable.

What are the best wiper blades according to the tests?

The Bosch AeroTwin came first in all five tests listed here: Auto Express (2025, 5 stars), Testfakta (2024, 9.5 out of 10, with the SWF Connect just one tenth behind), Autocar (2024, 5 stars), Carbuyer (2021, 5/5) and Hagerty UK (2021, 10 points). The tests used different cars and sizes, so it is a guide only, and it is worth checking that the size and fixing match your car.

How were the blades tested for resistance to cold and salt?

In the Testfakta test, the DEKRA Automobil laboratory fitted eight flat blades to a VW Golf VII. It scored cleaning at low and high speed (50% of the mark), durability (30%), with the blades frozen to −20 °C and 240 hours of salt spray, and fitting (20%).

How it is calculated

We do not test products or give our own scores: we collect the results published by independent tests (motoring clubs, consumer associations and magazines with their own measurements). In each test, the first product scores 10 and the last scores 0, in proportion to its position; a product’s score is the average of its tests from the last 8 years. A test repeated by several organisations counts only once. No brand pays to appear, and shop commissions do not change the order. Full methodology
