The best summer tyres of 2026 according to the tests

This ranking covers the independent summer tyre tests published between 2023 and 2026 by the ADAC (together with its partners in the European consortium), AUTO BILD, auto motor und sport and AUTO ZEITUNG. Each test uses one specific size and tyres bought at retail, so only products of the same size can be compared. MotorFiable does not score anything itself: the positions and ratings are those published by each test.

According to 26 tests independent tests from ADAC, AUTO BILD, auto motor und sport, AUTO ZEITUNG, Auto Express, evo and What Car?, the best summer tyres are the Continental PremiumContact 6 (9.4/10), the Bridgestone Turanza T005 (9.2/10) and the Continental PremiumContact 7 (8.9/10). The score summarises the position each one achieved in those tests; it is not our own test.

What to look for when buying

  • Look for the result in your size or a very similar one: the ADAC considers its results valid for other sizes if the width changes by no more than ±10 mm, the profile by no more than ±5 points and the rim diameter and construction are the same; results for speed rating V or higher cannot be carried over to lower speed ratings.
  • Don't go by price alone: in the ADAC's 2025 test the Doublecoin DC100 was the cheapest (€76) and had the highest predicted mileage (74,400 km), but on wet roads it braked from 80 km/h in about 45 m, compared with about 28 m for the best tyre.
  • A brilliant result in a single discipline is not enough: in the ADAC's 2026 test the Linglong Sport Master scored 1.5 on wet roads, but finished with 4.2 and a not recommended rating because of its dry performance and wear.
  • Check how many kilometres a tyre will last: the ADAC predicts almost 58,000 km for the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 and about 30,600 km for the Vredestein Ultrac+ in its 2026 test, and AUTO BILD calculates the cost per 1,000 km (€11.01 for the Hankook Ventus evo in its 245/45 R19 test).
  • Check the EU tyre label: the ADAC only admits tyres with a wet grip class of C or better into its tests, a reasonable minimum for ruling out models before you compare them.

Frequently asked questions

Which summer tyre wins the most independent tests?

There is no single winner, because each test uses a different size. Continental won the ADAC test in 2024 and 2026 with the PremiumContact 7 (215/55 R17 and 225/50 R17) and in 2025 with the SportContact 7 (225/40 R18); in 2023 the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 and the Continental PremiumContact 6 tied for first place. AUTO BILD gave the win to the Hankook Ventus evo in 2026 (245/45 R19 and 255/45 R19).

Are cheap tyres from little-known brands safe?

It depends on the model. In the ADAC's 2026 test three tyres (Lassa Revola, Leao Nova-Force Acro and Linglong Sport Master) were rated not recommended, and in 2025 the Doublecoin DC100 scored 5.5 ('mangelhaft'). But there are also cheap tyres that are well rated: the Kumho Ecsta HS52, with an average price of €123 per tyre, earned a 'gut' rating in the ADAC test in 2024. The sensible approach is to check each model's rating in your size.

Do results from a test in a different size still apply?

Only within limits. The ADAC explains that results can be transferred to other sizes when the width differs by no more than ±10 mm, the profile by no more than ±5 percentage points, and the rim diameter and construction are identical. Results for tyres with a speed index of V (240 km/h) or higher cannot be extrapolated to lower speed indexes.

Why do the ADAC and AUTO BILD rankings not match?

Each one tests a different size and different models, and weights results differently. The ADAC calculates the final score with 70% driving safety and 30% environmental balance (mileage, abrasion, fuel consumption and noise). AUTO BILD first runs a ranking for dry and wet braking, from which only the top 20 go through, and it also scores a costs section.

How it is calculated

We do not test products or give our own scores: we collect the results published by independent tests (motoring clubs, consumer associations and magazines with their own measurements). In each test, the first product scores 10 and the last scores 0, in proportion to its position; a product’s score is the average of its tests from the last 3 years. A test repeated by several organisations counts only once. No brand pays to appear, and shop commissions do not change the order. Full methodology
