Dualogic vs VW 01M: which gearbox is more reliable?

According to our risk index, the Dualogic gearbox carries less risk than the VW 01M gearbox: 29/100 versus 32/100 (both moderate risk). The Dualogic gearbox has 1 documented serious fault, the main one being «Actuator or hydraulic pressure fault: the gearbox drops into neutral on its own or refuses gears»; the VW 01M gearbox has 1 documented serious fault, the main one being «Valve body wear and internal pressure leaks (slipping and jerking)».

Is the Dualogic gearbox reliable?

The Dualogic is the automated manual gearbox that Fiat has fitted since 2003 to models such as the 500, Panda, Grande Punto/Punto, Doblò and Qubo, and that Lancia sells as D.F.N. on the Ypsilon. It has no systemic fault acknowledged by the manufacturer, but there are recurring testimonies of jerking on every gearchange, clutches that wear out early, and actuator faults that make the gearbox drop into neutral on its own while driving.[1][2][3]

Is the VW 01M gearbox reliable?

The VW 01M is the 4-speed automatic gearbox that Volkswagen fitted from 1995 to 2005 in the Golf, the Bora, the New Beetle and, according to the sources, the first-generation Octavia, León and A3. Its documented faults are the wiring and speed sensors (emergency mode in third gear), wear of the valve body and the plastic speedometer gear.[4][5][6]
