1.5 Blue dCi with SCR and AdBlue (85, 95, 100 and 115 hp, from 2018) engine: faults and reliability
Renault 1.5 dCi (K9K) version
What changes in this version
For Euro 6d-Temp it adopts selective catalytic reduction (SCR) with AdBlue. Nissan says 90% of the parts were renewed, with a new dual-mass flywheel, a new oil cooler and an injection pressure of 2,000 bar (previously 1,600); the top output rises to 115 hp with 260 Nm.[4][5]
Engine codes of this version: K9K 872, K9K 873, K9K 874.
Faults of the K9K 872 engine
The documented engine faults that affect this version and its years, from most to least important.
- 1Medium severityFrequency: OccasionalClutchPremature dual-mass flywheel failure and clutch problemsThe 105 and 110 hp 1.5 dCi engines can break the dual-mass flywheel early, sometimes before 40,000 km. It warns you with vibrations at idle and metallic noises, and forces you to replace the clutch and flywheel assembly.Repair (garage): €700–€1,300
- 2Medium severityFrequency: OccasionalEmissions controlNOx trap and AdBlue system on the Euro 6 1.5 dCiThe 2015 Euro 6b 1.5 dCi engines had a badly calibrated NOx trap that Renault corrected with recall campaigns. On the Blue dCi (from 2018), the AdBlue pump, tank or injector can fail, with an emissions warning and even the car locked out with a full tank.

Frequently asked questions
Is the K9K 872 engine reliable?
Our verdict is “With caution”. There is still little long-term data. Faults in the AdBlue system (pump, tank, injector) and emissions warnings with no real fault have been documented, and Caradisiac considers the earlier dCi 110 somewhat more reliable than the Blue dCi 115.[1][2][3]
What faults does the K9K 872 engine have?
The documented ones that affect this version, by importance: premature dual-mass flywheel failure and clutch problems (medium severity) and NOx trap and AdBlue system on the Euro 6 1.5 dCi (medium severity).
Which cars use the K9K 872 engine?
Renault Clio V (2019–2023), Renault Mégane IV (since 2016), Renault Kangoo II (2008–2021), Renault Captur II (since 2019), Renault Kadjar (2015–2022), Dacia Sandero II (2012–2020), Dacia Logan II (2012–2020), Dacia Duster II (since 2017), Dacia Dokker (2012–2021) and Dacia Lodgy (since 2012), among 3 others.[1][2][3][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
