DSG7 DQ200 0CW (since 2013) gearbox: faults and reliability
What changes in this version
Evolution of the 0AM that began to be fitted around 2013; specialists agree that the working principle and a good part of the internal components did not change substantially, with revisions focused mainly on the control software and electronics, and it still shares the same pressure accumulator weak point as the 0AM. A spare-parts wholesaler specialising in the Volkswagen Group notes a marked improvement in reliability from 2015, after revisions to the mechatronic unit, the dry clutch and thermal management.[1][2]
Engine codes of this version: 0CW.
Faults of the 0CW gearbox
The documented engine faults that affect this version and its years, from most to least important.
- 1High severityFrequency: Very frequentElectronicsMechatronic unit failure: pressure accumulator, pump and cracked housingYes: the mechatronic unit is the DQ200's most cited weak point. Its pressure accumulator and hydraulic pump can fail because of a housing design defect, with fault warnings, limp mode or loss of drive; Volkswagen has acknowledged the problem with service actions and software updates.Repair (garage): €600–€2,200
- 2Medium severityFrequency: CommonClutchPremature dry clutch wear and judder when drivingYes: the DQ200's dry clutch wears out sooner than a wet one, especially in stop-start urban traffic. It warns of its condition with judder or jerking when pulling away, slipping when accelerating and, in advanced cases, a burning smell; specialists put its service life at between 120,000 and 180,000 km depending on use.Repair (garage): €500–€1,100Appears at around 120,000 km

Frequently asked questions
Is the 0CW gearbox reliable?
Our verdict is “With caution”. It improves on the reliability of the 0AM, but does not eliminate its design weak points: it is still the same dry-clutch and mechatronic family, so you should carry out the same checks (history, stored fault codes, test drive) before buying.[1][2][3]
What faults does the 0CW gearbox have?
The documented ones that affect this version, by importance: mechatronic unit failure: pressure accumulator, pump and cracked housing (high severity) and premature dry clutch wear and judder when driving (medium severity).
Which cars use the 0CW gearbox?
Volkswagen Polo V (2009–2017), Volkswagen Polo VI (since 2017), Volkswagen Golf VII (2012–2020), Volkswagen Golf VIII (since 2019), Volkswagen T-Cross (since 2018), Volkswagen T-Roc (since 2017), Volkswagen Passat B7 (2010–2014), Volkswagen Passat B8 (2014–2023), Volkswagen Touran I (2008–2015) and Volkswagen Touran II (since 2015), among 25 others.[1][3][4][5][6][7][8]
