Is the 1.0 EcoBoost reliable?

It is a turbocharged direct-injection three-cylinder that has won Engine of the Year several times, but it has two very well-documented weak points: two belts running in oil (timing and oil pump) that can disintegrate and seize the engine, and cases of coolant leaks and overheating in early units. It is best bought with a service history and the belts checked or replaced on time.[1][2][3][4]

Is the BMW M54 reliable?

The BMW M54 (2000-2006) is a naturally aspirated petrol inline-six with a reputation for longevity, passing 200,000 km if maintained. Its weak points are the crankcase ventilation valve and the plastic cooling system; check that they have been renewed.[5][6][7]
