Is the 2.0 Ingenium diésel reliable?

The 2.0 Ingenium diesel is the four-cylinder diesel engine that Jaguar Land Rover designed from scratch and has fitted since 2015 to the Range Rover Evoque, the Discovery Sport and several Jaguars. Several sources repeatedly document timing chain stretch, balance shaft wear, turbo failures and fuel dilution of the oil, so it is worth checking thoroughly before buying.^[1][2]

Is the Skyactiv-D reliable?

The Skyactiv-D is a modern and generally reliable diesel, but across its three displacements (1.5, 1.8 and 2.2) it shares oil dilution with diesel fuel during diesel particulate filter regenerations, which means you need to watch the oil level and not stretch oil changes, especially on short journeys; the older 2.2s (2012-2014) also accumulate more turbo and carbon build-up cases.^[3][4][5][6]
