Stellantis e-CMP: motor síncrono de 100 and 115 kW and baterías de 50 a 75 kWhHigh-voltage battery (hybrids and EVs)
Loss of traction from a high-voltage system cut-out (‘electric traction fault’ warning) on the Stellantis e-CMP (e-208, Corsa-e, ë-C4…)
In 2022 Stellantis recalled the 2019-2020 e-208, e-2008, DS 3 E-Tense and Corsa-e because a high-voltage circuit safety system, set too sensitively, could cut the power and leave the car without traction.[1]
Why this rating?
High severity: Risk of a serious engine, turbo or gearbox failure.
Frequency occasional: This was a preventive campaign with a definitive fix (a software update and, sometimes, a charger or DC-DC converter replacement), so we do not rate it by its size (5,761 cars in France). Fiches-auto gathers owner reports of ‘traction defect’ on the e-208, e-2008, Corsa-e and 600e, with no fleet figures.[1][2][3][4][5]
Symptoms
- The car suddenly loses traction, sometimes on fast roads, and it can take several minutes to restart.[1][3]Less power: other faults that cause it · Monitor
- Several red warning lights come on and an ‘electric traction fault’ message or a high-voltage system fault warning appears.[3][5]Electronic warnings: other faults that cause it · Monitor
Why it happens
A high-voltage circuit safety system was set too sensitively and cut the power without a real reason.[1]
Fiches-auto notes that traction warnings can come from high-voltage management, the inverter, the motor or the wiring, and that the traction battery is not always to blame.[3][4]
If it is not repaired: Loss of power while driving and difficulty restarting or moving the car for several minutes; in owner reports, weeks off the road.[1][3][5]
Affected cars and years
The 2022 campaign covers e-208 and e-2008 built from 3 July 2019 to 27 September 2020, DS 3 Crossback E-Tense built from 4 May 2019 to 29 September 2020, and Corsa-e built from 22 October 2019 to 14 November 2020. Owner reports of ‘traction defect’ also include the 600e and Avenger.[1][2]

How much it costs to repair
Includes: Software update and, where needed, replacement of the on-board charger or DC-DC converter.[1]
The 2022 campaign was free for the owner; the work ranged from under 20 minutes to nearly 5 hours. Outside the campaign there is no published tariff.
Prices in Spain, including VAT. A workshop hour costs on average €38–66 at independent garages and €77–134 at dealerships in Spain, depending on the region and the brand. How we calculate costs

Parts needed
The part or kit that fixes this fault, according to the sources.
- Buy part at Autodoc (affiliate link, opens in a new tab)
DC-DC converter[1]
Supplies the 12 V network from the high-voltage battery; in some campaign cases it was replaced.
Affiliate links to Autodoc: if you buy, MotorFiable may receive a commission at no cost to you. Check compatibility using the registration number or the VIN before ordering. More information
How to prevent it
- Have any outstanding campaigns done at an official dealer; a software update is usually enough.[1]

What owners say
Frequently asked questions
My e-208 stopped with ‘electric traction fault’: is it the battery?
Not necessarily. Fiches-auto stresses that the warning can come from high-voltage management, the inverter or the wiring, and L’argus describes a campaign over an overly sensitive safety system. A full diagnostic is needed.[1][3]
How long does the 2022 campaign repair take?
Between under 20 minutes and nearly 5 hours, depending on whether a software update was enough or the charger or converter had to be replaced.[1]

- High severityFrequency: OccasionalTraction batteryTraction battery control calibration: motor cut-out from faulty readings (2022)A faulty software calibration of the battery control unit could misread the cell voltage or temperature and trigger an emergency motor cut-out. It affected Stellantis and Toyota electric cars built in 2022.
- Critical severityFrequency: RareElectronicsAstra Electric: communication fault between control units that can make the car move backwards (2023)In 2023 Opel recalled 1,466 Astra L Electrics because a communication fault between the engine control unit and the body control unit misread the immobiliser data, and the car could move in reverse when pulling away on a slope.
- Medium severityFrequency: OccasionalChargingOn-board charger and charging port: AC charging refused or interruptedOwners of the e-208, e-2008, Corsa-e, ë-C4 and 600e mainly cite faults with the on-board charger, the cable lock or the charging port, which stop AC charging even when the battery is healthy.
- Medium severityFrequency: OccasionalElectronicsFaulty air-conditioning compressor that can cut the drivetrain (2023)In 2023 the KBA published a campaign for Opel, Peugeot, Citroën and DS electric cars over a faulty air-conditioning compressor that can cause the drivetrain to disconnect. It is fixed with a software update.

- High severityFrequency: CommonFord Mustang Mach-EHigh-voltage battery contactors overheating: loss of powerYes: the main contactors of the Mach-E's high-voltage battery can overheat with repeated rapid charging and hard acceleration, and the car may lose traction or fail to start. The 2022 software update was not enough, and in December 2023 Ford moved to replace the contactor box.
- Critical severityFrequency: OccasionalBMW eDrive de 5.ª generación (iX3, i4, iX)Cells with a damaged cathode in the high-voltage battery (fire risk)Yes: in September 2022 Safety Gate listed a BMW recall for a manufacturing defect in the high-voltage battery of the iX, i4 and i7 built from 5 July 2021 to 8 July 2022. A supplier may have damaged a cathode plate and a fragment may have entered a cell; the defective modules are replaced, and BMW asked owners not to charge or drive the car until then.
- Critical severityFrequency: OccasionalBMW i3 / Mini Cooper SEDefective cells in the high-voltage battery of the i3 from 2018 to 2021Yes: in October 2022 BMW launched a recall of the i3 built from 26/10/2018 to 31/08/2021 because a production defect in the winding of the cells' internal foils can overheat the modules and cause a fire. The defective module is replaced.
- Critical severityFrequency: CommonCitroën C5 AircrossOverheating and water ingress in the high-voltage battery (Hybrid versions)The plug-in Hybrid versions of the C5 Aircross built between January 2020 and the end of 2022 have been the subject of several successive manufacturer campaigns over a risk of the high-voltage battery overheating and, in another related campaign, over possible water ingress into its casing.
- Critical severityFrequency: CommonFord Kuga IIIFire risk in the plug-in hybrid high-voltage battery (recall 25SC4)The cells of the Kuga PHEV's high-voltage battery (made by Samsung SDI) can suffer an internal short circuit because of a damaged separator, with a risk of power loss and fire; Ford has recalled units built between August 2019 and November 2023.
- Critical severityFrequency: CommonOpel Grandland IRisk of overheating and fire of the high-voltage battery on plug-in hybrid versions (2019-2022)The plug-in hybrid versions of the Grandland X built between 2019 and 2022 have been the subject of several successive campaigns - first a software update and then physical replacement - over the risk of overheating and fire of the high-voltage battery.
