Stellantis e-CMP (e-208, Corsa-e, ë-C4…) engine: faults and reliability

Stellantis e-CMP: motor síncrono de 100 and 115 kW and baterías de 50 a 75 kWh · Peugeot, Opel, Citroën, DS, Fiat, Jeep and Toyota

Stellantis’s electric drivetrain has no serious factory faults documented: the battery holds up well (median 94% health at 50,000 km and 90.7% at 150,000 km in the e-208 and Corsa-e), and the problems cited are the charger and several software campaigns.[1][2][3]

Which Stellantis e-CMP (e-208, Corsa-e, ë-C4…) versions should you buy?

Our verdict for each version, based on the documented faults.

  • With caution

Cars built before 2022 may have two outstanding campaigns: one for a high-voltage power cut (2022) and one for battery control calibration (2023). Check with the VIN that they were carried out. The battery, on the other hand, holds up well: Aviloo measures a median of 94% at 50,000 km and 90.7% at 150,000 km in the e-208 and Corsa-e.[1][2][3]

  • With caution

They share the motor and the family’s campaigns (air-conditioning compressor from 2023 on the e-Expert, ë-Jumpy and Vivaro-e), but the sources consulted hold no reliability data specific to the 75 kWh battery.[5][6]

  • e-CMP second generation 54 kWh, 156 hp (2022-)

    since 2022 · 156 hp · eMotors M3

    With caution

This generation is still recent: there are few owner reports and only one campaign of its own (Astra Electric, 2023), but it also inherits the charger and power electronics design of the first. Check for campaigns and remaining warranty.[7][8][9]

Buy: No known serious faults, or they have already been corrected, in this version. With caution: Worth buying if something specific is verified: history, a replaced part or a completed campaign. Avoid: High risk of a serious fault that is hard to check for or prevent.

Known faults of the Stellantis e-CMP (e-208, Corsa-e, ë-C4…)

Sorted from most to least important (severity × frequency).

  1. 1High severityFrequency: OccasionalPower electronicsLoss of traction from a high-voltage system cut-out (‘electric traction fault’ warning)In 2022 Stellantis recalled the 2019-2020 e-208, e-2008, DS 3 E-Tense and Corsa-e because a high-voltage circuit safety system, set too sensitively, could cut the power and leave the car without traction.
  2. 2High severityFrequency: OccasionalTraction batteryTraction battery control calibration: motor cut-out from faulty readings (2022)A faulty software calibration of the battery control unit could misread the cell voltage or temperature and trigger an emergency motor cut-out. It affected Stellantis and Toyota electric cars built in 2022.
  3. 3Critical severityFrequency: RareElectronicsAstra Electric: communication fault between control units that can make the car move backwards (2023)In 2023 Opel recalled 1,466 Astra L Electrics because a communication fault between the engine control unit and the body control unit misread the immobiliser data, and the car could move in reverse when pulling away on a slope.
  4. 4Medium severityFrequency: OccasionalChargingOn-board charger and charging port: AC charging refused or interruptedOwners of the e-208, e-2008, Corsa-e, ë-C4 and 600e mainly cite faults with the on-board charger, the cable lock or the charging port, which stop AC charging even when the battery is healthy.
  5. 5Medium severityFrequency: OccasionalElectronicsFaulty air-conditioning compressor that can cut the drivetrain (2023)In 2023 the KBA published a campaign for Opel, Peugeot, Citroën and DS electric cars over a faulty air-conditioning compressor that can cause the drivetrain to disconnect. It is fixed with a software update.

What the Stellantis e-CMP (e-208, Corsa-e, ë-C4…) is

The e-CMP (Common Modular Platform, electric) was born from PSA with Dongfeng. The first generation pairs a 100 kW (136 hp) motor with a 50 kWh gross battery, and the second an eMotors M3 motor (Stellantis and Nidec) rated at 115 kW (156 hp) with 54 kWh gross.[4]

The Stellantis and Toyota vans and people carriers (e-Berlingo, e-Partner, e-Rifter, Combo-e, Proace City, e-Expert, ë-Jumpy, Vivaro-e, Proace Electric) share the 100 kW motor of the e-208, with 50 kWh batteries and, on the larger ones, 75 kWh.[5][10]

This page covers the electric drivetrain (traction battery, charging, motor and reduction gear, power electronics) of the whole family, because the most important campaigns and owner reports cut across brands and models.[2][3][6]

What changed between versions

  1. 2019–2024

    e-CMP 50 kWh, 136 hp (2019-2024)

First-generation drivetrain: permanent-magnet synchronous motor of 100 kW (136 hp) and 260 Nm, lithium-ion battery of 50 kWh gross (around 46 kWh usable) and heat pump. The vans and people carriers in the family (e-Berlingo, e-Partner, e-Rifter, Combo-e, Proace City, e-Expert, ë-Jumpy, Vivaro-e, Proace Electric) use the same 100 kW motor.[4][5][10][11]

  2. 2020–2024

    Large vans 75 kWh, 136 hp (2020-2024)

The large vans (Expert, Jumpy, Vivaro and Proace from the K0 family) share the 100 kW motor of the e-208 and offer, in addition to the 50 kWh battery, a 75 kWh option. They come with a 7.4 kW charger as standard and an optional 11 kW one.[5]

  3. since 2022

    e-CMP second generation 54 kWh, 156 hp (2022-)

Second generation: eMotors M3 motor (a joint venture of Stellantis and Nidec) rated at 115 kW (156 hp) and 260 Nm, and an NMC battery of 54 kWh gross (51 kWh usable) with better efficiency. It is fitted to the facelifted e-208 and e-2008, Corsa and Mokka Electric, ë-C4, DS 3 E-Tense, Avenger, 600e, e-308 and Astra Electric.[4][9][12][13][14][15]
