Mazda MX-30 problems (2020–today)

The only engine of the Mazda MX-30 that we have documented, the Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv, has high or critical severity faults in the versions it is fitted to. Our verdict for the versions it is fitted to: «With caution».[1][2][3][4]

Outside the engine: The Mazda MX-30 has three documented review campaigns in Europe: the passenger airbag and two others that we assess under its electric motor (the Motor Hill Assist with the brake lights, on 2020 units, and the on-board charger software, 2022-2023). We have found no real-world reliability data or workshop statistics in Spain.[2][3][4][5]

Documented engine

The first label is the most serious fault affecting that engine in this car; the second, our verdict for the versions it is fitted to. Each engine's risk index is calculated only from the faults that affect this car (how we calculate it). We only show engines we have documented with sources: if yours does not appear, we have not analysed it yet. View all engines

Faults that affect the MX-30

  1. High severityFrequency: OccasionalElectronicsMotor Hill Assist and brake lights: software fault in the electric motor controlYes, but only on 2020 MX-30s: Mazda recalled 11,774 cars (European alert A12/00247/21) because Motor Hill Assist could make the car move forward when the brake is released after going from ice to a surface with grip, and the brake lights could come on in reverse. It is corrected with software in around 20 minutes.
  2. Medium severityFrequency: OccasionalChargingOn-board charger (OBC) with faulty software: detects a cable that is not there and the car will not startYes: in 2023 Mazda recalled around 9,585 electric MX-30s because the on-board charger software could believe a cable was connected and show the warning that the car cannot be started. It is corrected by updating the charger software at the workshop.
