Unvulcanised fuel return pipe: fuel leak and fire risk on the 2.2 MultiJet / BlueHDi (Stellantis)
Why this rating?
High severity: Risk of a serious engine, turbo or gearbox failure.
Frequency rare: It is a precautionary campaign with a definitive fix (inspect the pipe and replace it if needed) covering a single production window: about 24,200 vans worldwide, 5,711 of them in Germany. L'Argus adds that no fire has been reported, so we rate it rare rather than common.[2][3]
Symptoms
Why it happens
The fuel return pipe on some units came out without the intended vulcanisation, making it less elastic and less stable when hot; the Safety Gate alert speaks of an insufficient connection between the pipe and the valve.[1][2]
L'Argus explains it this way: the hose that returns fuel to the tank did not receive the treatment that makes it softer and more heat-resistant, so when it heats up it hardens and may fit poorly or come loose.[3]
The DVSA records the same anomaly in the Toyota Proace Max: rubber sections of the return pipe that may not be properly vulcanised, which weakens the joints and can cause a leak.[4]
If it is not repaired: Diesel leak and, if it lands on hot parts in the engine bay, a fire in the worst case. L'Argus states that as of March 2026 none had been reported.[2][3]
Affected cars and years
According to the German press, the campaign covers the Movano from 6/11/2024 to 23/7/2025, the Boxer from 4/2 to 21/7/2025, the Jumper from 7/1 to 22/7/2025 and the Ducato from 19/3 to 4/7/2025, all of Italian production (including motorhomes on those bases). The British DVSA gives a different range for the Ducato (9/5 to 11/12/2025) and adds the Toyota Proace Max (1/10/2024 to 19/6/2025). No alert names the engine; L'Argus says that in France it affects only vans with the 2.2 MultiJet.[1][2][3][4]

How much it costs to repair
Includes: Inspection of the fuel return pipe and replacement if needed (manufacturer campaign).[2][3]
According to L'Argus, in France the manufacturer bears the whole cost; we have found no Spanish source on whether it is free. Stellantis estimates between 12 and 90 minutes of labour.
Prices in Spain, including VAT. A workshop hour costs on average €38–66 at independent garages and €77–134 at dealerships in Spain, depending on the region and the brand. How we calculate costs
How to check for it before buying a used car
- If the unit was built between November 2024 and July 2025, ask the dealer for proof that the campaign has been done; the action codes are F52Y (Ducato), MZA (Boxer), GN3 (Jumper) and KTY (Movano).[2]
- Confirm with the VIN, at an official dealer, whether your unit is in the campaign: the Safety Gate alert lists specific VIN ranges and not every unit of the model is affected.[1]

This fault has a manufacturer recall: if your car is included, the repair is free at an official service centre. Check with the manufacturer before buying the part. View the recall
Fuel return pipe[2]
Returns surplus diesel from the injection circuit to the tank; the campaign inspects it and replaces it if it does not meet the specification.

How to prevent it
- It is a manufacturing defect and cannot be avoided with maintenance: it is corrected by the campaign. Book an appointment at the dealer as soon as you receive the manufacturer's notice.[2]

What owners say
Frequently asked questions
Is my Ducato, Boxer, Jumper or Movano in the fuel return pipe campaign?
Only if it was built in Italy on the campaign dates: Movano from 6/11/2024, Boxer from 4/2 to 21/7/2025, Jumper from 7/1 to 22/7/2025 and Ducato from 19/3 to 4/7/2025, according to the German press. An official dealer can confirm it from the VIN; the codes are GN3, MZA, KTY and F52Y.[1][2]
Does the campaign affect all engines or only the 2.2 diesel?
The Safety Gate alert and the German press do not name the engine. L'Argus states that in France only vans fitted with the 2.2 MultiJet are in the campaign.[1][2][3]
Is there a real fire danger?
The manufacturer admits that if fuel drips onto hot parts in the engine bay, a fire could occur in the worst case. L'Argus states that, as of March 2026, no case had been reported.[2][3]
How much does the inspection cost?
L'Argus says that in France the manufacturer covers the whole cost and that owners are notified by registered letter. We have found no Spanish source, so ask at the dealer before paying anything.[3]

Hyundai recalled the Tucson TL built between February 2017 and August 2020 (campaign 11DC03) because the ABS module can fail internally and cause a short circuit with a risk of fire in the engine bay, even with the car parked. In the US the same campaign (20V543000) covered model years 2016-2021.
