PSA/Ford 1.6 HDi, e-HDi, TDCi and BlueHDi (DV6)Injectors
Jerking and injection faults on the 1.6 e-HDi 112/115 (Continental injectors) on the 1.6 HDi
The 112 and 115 hp 1.6 HDi/e-HDi built between late 2011 and February 2014 can jerk and turn on the engine warning light because of an internal electrical defect in their Continental injectors. PSA covered their replacement depending on age and mileage.[1]
Why this rating?
Symptoms
- Jerking or shuddering when accelerating.[1]Jerking: other faults that cause it · Garage soon
- Engine fault warning light on.[1]Engine warning light: other faults that cause it · Garage soon
- Unstable idle when hot (pressure sensor) or vibrations in the dashboard (high-pressure pump).[1]Vibrations: other faults that cause it · Monitor
Why it happens
Internal electrical defect in the Continental-brand injectors fitted in those years.[1]
Faulty rail pressure sensors and high-pressure pumps on 2012-2013 units, which the official service replaced.[1]
If it is not repaired: Jerking, warning light on and irregular running. L'argus also reports engine control units that caused stalling with no possibility of restarting until October 2012.[1]
Affected cars and years
Injectors with the defect from 31/12/2011 to 28/02/2014. On the same engines, faulty rail pressure sensors (until September 2013) and high-pressure pumps that transmitted noises and vibrations to the dashboard (until July 2012) are documented.[1]

How much it costs to repair
Includes: Replacement of injectors, rail pressure sensor or high-pressure pump depending on the diagnosis.[1]
We have not found reliable published prices in Spain. At the time PSA covered the full cost up to 36 months or 60,000 km and part of it up to 48 months or 80,000 km.
Prices in Spain, including VAT. A workshop hour costs on average €38–66 at independent garages and €77–134 at dealerships in Spain, depending on the region and the brand. How we calculate costs

Parts needed
The part or kit that fixes this fault, according to the sources.
Rail pressure sensor[1]
Its failure turns on the warning light or causes an unstable idle when hot.
High-pressure pump[1]
It was replaced on units with noises and vibrations in the dashboard.

How to prevent it
- If you have jerking or the warning light on, take the car to the official service with its history: a replacement under cover may already be on record.[1]

PSA cover for the Continental injectors on the 1.6 HDi 112/115
Cars with jerking and the warning light on built from 31/12/2011 to 28/02/2014: full cover up to 36 months or 60,000 km and partial cover up to 48 months or 80,000 km. Another L'argus article from 2014 cites limits of 48 months/80,000 km and 60 months/100,000 km.[1][5]
What owners say
Frequently asked questions
Which versions have Continental injectors?
The 8-valve 112 and 115 hp 1.6 HDi/e-HDi. The move to 8 valves in 2010 introduced seven-hole piezoelectric injectors.[1][4]
What other injection parts fail on these engines?
The rail pressure sensor (warning light or unstable idle when hot) and, on some units until July 2012, the high-pressure pump, which transmitted noises and vibrations to the dashboard.[1]

Other 1.6 HDi faults
- High severityFrequency: Very frequentTurboTurbo failure through lack of lubrication (carbon deposits and union filter)On the 16-valve 1.6 HDi/TDCi engines (2004-2011) the turbo can seize because carbon deposits from the oil clog the mesh filter in the union that feeds it. It is a serious, repeat fault: if only the turbo is replaced without cleaning the circuit, it fails again.Repair (garage): €700–€1,050
- High severityFrequency: Very frequentTimingTiming belt failure and premature wearOn the 8-valve 1.6 HDi/e-HDi 112/115 built between October 2010 and September 2011 the belt could break and leave the car stranded. PSA covered the repair and in 2014 preventively replaced the belt and crankshaft sprocket on those that had passed 120,000 km.
- Medium severityFrequency: Very frequentEmissions controlAdBlue tank and pump fault (1.6 BlueHDi)The 1.6 BlueHDi engines (2013-2019) suffer from the AdBlue tank defect of Stellantis diesels: an emissions warning appears with a countdown until starting is prevented. Replacing the tank, with the integrated pump, costs over €1,000 (price in Spain), but there is an extended warranty of up to 8 years.Repair: €1,000–€1,200
- Medium severityFrequency: CommonInjectionLeaks at the injector washers and carbon build-up in the cylinder headIt is common for the copper washers of the 1.6 HDi injectors to stop sealing: the engine blows gases, carbon forms around the injector and soot gets into the oil. It is cheap to repair, but if left it contaminates the oil and is one of the causes of turbo failure.Repair (garage): €110–€310
- Medium severityFrequency: CommonEmissions controlAdditive-fed particulate filter (Eolys cerine): depleted additive and cloggingThe DPF on the 1.6 HDi and BlueHDi works with an additive (cerine) that runs out at 80,000-120,000 km and has to be topped up for around €100-120 (price in Spain). With a lot of town use the filter clogs and the warning appears; if it is left, a new DPF costs around €1,500.Repair (garage): €100–€1,500Appears at around 80,000 km
- Medium severityFrequency: CommonEmissions controlDirty EGR valve and EGR cooler leaksThe 1.6 HDi EGR valve gets dirty easily, especially in town use, and causes jerking and stalling at idle. On the 8V engines the EGR cooler also fails, consuming coolant with no visible leaks.
More faults with the injectors on other engines and cars
- High severityFrequency: Very frequentOM651Delphi piezo injector failure (220/250 CDI)Yes: 220 and 250 CDI models built between 2008 and 2011 had Delphi piezo injectors that were prone to failing and seizing in the cylinder head. Mercedes-Benz replaced them under warranty in 2009 and switched the 220 CDI to solenoid injectors from 2010-2011, but the 250 CDI kept them.Repair (garage): €3,600–€5,900
- High severityFrequency: CommonBMW N52 / N53N53 piezoelectric injector failureThe N53's piezoelectric direct injectors fail frequently and cause misfires, rough idle and limp mode; replacing them is expensive and they must be coded.
- High severityFrequency: CommonMZR-CDOil dilution from leaking injector seals and DPF regenerationsOn the 2.0 and 2.2 MZR-CD, injector seals that age badly and incomplete particulate filter regenerations on short journeys can let unburnt diesel into the sump, diluting the oil and leaving the engine with less lubrication.
- High severityFrequency: CommonOM642Wear and failure of the Bosch piezo injectorsThe OM642's Bosch piezo injectors can fail from around 150,000-200,000 km, especially with poor-quality diesel; they cannot be repaired, only replaced. Because it is a V engine, those on the rear bank are harder to reach, which pushes up labour costs.Repair: €4,500–€6,500
- High severityFrequency: Common2.2 CDI (OM646)Injector seal leak with carbonisation around the seatYes: the copper washer that seals each injector can harden and let combustion gases through, forming a black crust of carbon around it. It is a known fault on Mercedes CDI diesels of this era, with injectors described as fragile on both the OM611 and the OM646.
- High severityFrequency: Common2.2/2.5 dCiInjection pump or injector failureThe 2.2 dCi's common rail injectors fail fairly often on the X-Trail and Almera, with cases of seizing and leaks; on the Almera with the older YD22DDT, the documented fault is in the injection pump electronics, not the injectors.
