    2005–2011 · 83–86 hp

    Buy

We have found no specific faults for the 8-valve versions; AutoCentrum describes the Aveo engines as lightly stressed and of moderate fault record, with 200,000 to 250,000 km typical.[3][8]

  • 1.4 16v DOHC 95-101 hp (F14D4/L95, 2004-2011)

    2004–2011 · 95–101 hp · F14D4, L95

    With caution

The 2004-2005 Lacetti units had ignition faults caused by faulty valves, repaired under warranty, and the press also cites minor lambda sensor problems and oil leaks; no serious faults are documented for the rest of the engine's life.[1][2][8]

  • 1.6 16v DOHC 103-109 hp (L91/LXT, 2004-2011)

    2004–2011 · 103–109 hp · L91, LXT

    With caution

AutoCentrum records valve problems in the first Lacetti units, although it says the 109 hp 1.6 shows no excessive faults, and Autokult cites minor lambda sensor problems on the Aveo 1.6.[2][8][9]

Buy: No known serious faults, or they have already been corrected, in this version. With caution: Worth buying if something specific is verified: history, a replaced part or a completed campaign. Avoid: High risk of a serious fault that is hard to check for or prevent.

What the 1.4 / 1.6 16v E-TEC II is

The E-TEC II is GM Daewoo's (Korea) family of four-cylinder, 16-valve petrol engines. According to Wikipedia, the 1.4 (1,399 cc) produces 94-95 hp and 127 Nm (F14D4/L95), with a 101 hp variant, and the 1.6 (1,598 cc) about 103 hp and 145 Nm (L91/LXT). Like all Family 1 engines, they have a toothed timing belt.[4]

In the European Lacetti (2004-2010) the 1.4 E-TEC II was offered at 95 hp and the 1.6 at 109 hp; in Colombia, the Optra used the 1.4-litre E-TEC II (94 hp) and the 1.6-litre (105 hp). The European Aveo also has 8-valve SOHC versions (1.4 and 1.5); in Latin America, Wikipedia places the 1.4 DOHC in Ecuador, Colombia and Chile, and the 1.6 DOHC in Colombia and Venezuela.[5][6][7][10][11]

Outside this page are the 1.8 of the Lacetti (121 hp), which according to Wikipedia is a Family II engine from Holden, and the 1.6 and 1.8 Ecotec of the Cruze and Aveo T300 (LDE and LUW), which belong to the later generation of Family 1.[4][5][11][12]

The Polish press describes these engines as having a moderate fault record: AutoCentrum says the 109 hp 1.6 of the Lacetti shows no excessive faults and that the Aveo engines are lightly stressed, with 200,000 to 250,000 km typical. Auto Świat recorded in 2007 the view of a dealer sales adviser who, “in general”, saw no major problems with the Lacetti 1.4, and set the timing belt service at 60,000 km.[1][2][3]
