Der Volvo Drive-E Benzinmotor (2,0-Liter-Vierzylinder T2-T6/B4-B5 und, seit 2018, 1,5-Liter-Dreizylinder T2-T3/B3) steckt seit 2013 in fast der gesamten Volvo-Palette. Besitzer dokumentieren vor allem einen hohen Ölverbrauch, der den Turbolader schädigen kann, Verkokung der Einlassventile durch die Direkteinspritzung und vereinzelt ein Leck am Kühlmittelbehälter; wir haben nicht gefunden, dass Volvo diese Mängel für den Benzinmotor mit einer eigenen Aktion anerkennt.[1][2][3]

Der VR5 mit 2,3 Litern ist ein Saugmotor mit fünf Zylindern, dessen Steuerkette hinten am Motor sitzt. Gebrauchtwagenberater hält ihn im Golf IV für kaufbar und ohne bekannte Probleme, warnt beim Bora aber, dass sich die Kette manchmal längt. AutoHints nennt Zündspulen und die Kunststoffteile des Kühlsystems als Punkte, auf die man achten sollte.[4][5][6][7]
